Moles are a cluster of melanocytes, small spots on your skin that are usually hyperpigmented and raised. Their color can range anywhere between brown to black. Nearly everyone on earth has 10-40 moles. However, there can be many more as well. They come in different shapes and sizes. While the origin of some moles is rooted in your genes, some show up because of other factors like sun exposure, hormonal changes, etc.

Are Moles Dangerous?

Short answer, no. Moles are usually harmless and are not of any health concern. However, some people consider them a cosmetic nuisance, especially if they are on the face or are ridiculously big. Apart from that, also note that in rare cases, moles can turn into a form of skin cancer, called melanoma. An easy way to judge the quality of your mole is through the ABCDE guide:

  • A – Asymmetry: If one half of the mole or lesion looks different from the other half.
  • B – Border irregularity: If the edges are uneven or notched.
  • C – Color: If the color is uneven or there are different shades of brown, black, or red.
  • D – Diameter: If the mole or lesion is larger than 6mm (about the size of a pencil eraser).
  • E – Evolving: If the mole or lesion has changed in size, shape, color, or other characteristics over time.

If you notice these changes in your mole, it’s best to consult a dermatologist and seek treatment.

How Can I Get My Mole Removed?

Whether your mole is showing concerning symptoms or you just want to get rid of an unwanted spot from your skin, Skin Stories has the most effective solution – Mole Removal Treatment. It is headed by Dr. Amit Kolli, one of the best dermatologists in Hyderabad with over 10+ years of experience.

Here’s how the procedure is done:

  • Before scheduling a date for the procedure, the nature and condition of the more are assessed. If it shows signs of cancer, a proper mapping of the cancerous cells is needed.
  • Mole removal is an outpatient procedure, usually performed under local anesthesia.
  • The mole is marked precisely to avoid any margin of error.
  • The actual process of removing a non-cancerous mole can be done in 4 ways:
    • Freezing the mole with liquid nitrogen so that it breaks off the skin.
    • Burning (electrocautery) the mole with an electric current in sessions until it is entirely gone.
    • Shaving the mole off with a surgical blade.
    • Excising the entire mole is removed stitching the skin back together if required. This method is effective for larger size moles and cancerous ones.
  • After the procedure, the mole is bandaged to keep it hygienic and help it heal faster. For most moles, you can take the bandage off after a few days.
  • Take the medicines as prescribed to prevent the risk of infections and scarring.

Consult your dermatologist after the procedure on a scheduled date to ensure that the mole was completely removed and that the wound is healing properly.
